Frequently Asked Questions

My hope is that everyone who comes to my classes feels welcomed exactly as they are.

What is trauma-informed yoga?

Trauma-informed yoga is an approach to teaching that recognises the ways stress, trauma and life experiences can shape our relationship with our bodies. Rather than focusing on achieving particular poses, the emphasis is on creating an environment where you can explore movement with choice, curiosity and self-compassion. My intention is to offer practices that support you to reconnect with your body in a way that feels safe and respectful of your own experience.

Do I need to have experienced trauma to attend?

Not at all.

Many people come to my classes because they're navigating stress, anxiety, burnout, major life changes, or simply because they're looking for a gentler, more mindful way to move. Everyone is welcome, and you're never expected to share anything about your personal experiences.

I've never done yoga before. Is that okay?

Absolutely.

You don't need to be flexible, fit, or know anything about yoga before you begin. Every practice is an invitation rather than an expectation, and you're encouraged to move in the way that feels right for you.

What makes these classes different from a regular yoga class?

In my classes, there’s no pressure or expectation to ”get it right”.

You'll hear invitations rather than commands, and you'll always have choices about how, or whether, you participate. I aim to create a space where listening to your own body is valued more than achieving a particular shape or pose.

What if I become emotional during a class?

Sometimes movement, breath or stillness can bring emotions to the surface. If that happens, there's no expectation to push through. You're always welcome to pause, rest or skip certain poses if you need to. My role is to create a respectful, supportive environment where your choices are honoured.

What does "choice" mean in your classes?

Choice is central to how I teach.

Rather than being told exactly what you should do, you'll be offered options so you can decide what feels supportive for your body on any given day. This helps cultivate self-awareness, confidence and trust in your own experience.
